BROWN RUNS SCARED

Prime Minister Gordon Brown is running scared. Polls showing that key Labour held marginal seats like Bolton North East and Bolton West are under threat to Conservatives have forced him to abandon plans for an early General Election. After weeks of hyping up the prospect of an October election the Prime Minister has been forced into a humiliating climb-down, ducking David Cameron’s challenge to hold an election now.

Conservative Chairman for the North West of England, Councillor John Walsh said,

“This is an amazing climb-down by the Prime Minister. It compares with Jim Callaghan in 1978 when he ducked the issue, delayed an election and suffered that humiliating defeat to Margaret Thatcher a year later."

Deborah Dunleavy, Bolton North-West Conservative Parliamentary candidate, added:

"For weeks Gordon Brown has refused to deny his plans for an autumn election. Now the truth has dawned. Conservatives have the policies supported by voters in key seats like Bolton and Bury and across the North West. The public are fed up with rising crime, tax hikes like this weeks petrol price rises, the pension debacle and Gordon Brown’s refusal to keep his promise to hold a referendum on the European constitution giving even more powers away to Brussels.

“Conservatives are prepared for an election at any time and the delay will enable us to strengthen our position as the public realise just what a mess Gordon Brown as Chancellor has left for Gordon Brown the Prime Minister. Gordon Brown can never be the solution, after all he is the problem.”
