Francis Maude MP joined Deborah Dunleavy, Parliamentary Candidate for Bolton North East, on a visit to Hall ith Wood Estate on Friday. They met with local young people to discuss Labours plans to give some young people a £35 voucher every month to give them access to services.
They spoke with residents Gaz Paul aged 17, Dave Broadhurst aged 18, Dillan Greenacre aged 9, Tyler Scott aged 16, and Carla Brown aged 17 about the plans. It was agreed that the plans could mean that not all of the group were entitled to the voucher, and that the money should be spent on schemes such as Bolton Lads and Girls Club.
Speaking later Deborah Dunleavy said I am pleased that Francis was able to join me to see how Conservative plans for the money allocated to this scheme could be better spent. Both Gaz and Dave regularly use the Lads and Girls Club and they took part in my Social Action Project last month when they went to the Lake District for an Outward Bound Weekend.
It is places like the Lads and Girls Club that provide excellent services for these young people. A £35 voucher will not encourage the towns young people to partake in similar services".
