Shadow Health Minister Gives Thumbs Up to the Royal Bolton

Shadow Health Minister Stephen O’Brien MP joined Deborah Dunleavy, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Bolton North East, along with senior nursing staff and Cllr David Greenhalgh for a tour of the Royal Bolton’s impressive new Cardiology unit.

They were shown around by Senior Nurse Pat Graham, as Sister Annette Connolly and Sister Kate Lewis described the excellent facilities of the Cardiology unit.

The visit came as the hospital bid to become a Foundation Trust, and as the hospital’s ratings on quality of services and use of resources were raised from ‘fair’ to ‘good’.

After the visit today, Mr O’Brien said it was clear to see why.  He has a personal, heartfelt interest in his Health portfolio as both Mr O’Brien’s mother is a retired Nurse and his wife is still nursing.

Commenting after the visit Deborah Dunleavy said “I was incredibly impressed in the new facilities that the Cardiology Department offers.  In my view the success of this unit is largely down to the commitment and the sense of ownership and personal responsibility that the nursing staff so clearly feels about their roles.”

“Having been born in the Royal Bolton, I found it encouraging that Bolton now has such an excellent Cardiology Department run by the very best of nursing staff”.
