As part of Carers Rights Day (Dec 7th) Deborah Dunleavy Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Bolton North East calls for the benefits system to be made easier for both Carers and Disabled People.
Deborah said In Bolton there are 28,000 adult carers, 6000 of which care for over fifty hours a week. I know from my own familys experience that those new to caring need straightforward and accessible information about their entitlements, and at the moment this is simply not the case.
Since my Dad suffered a massive Stroke three years ago, my mum has been a full-time carer, and this affects the whole family. What has added to the pressure of being a carer is a complicated benefits system thats often so complicated Social Workers dont always find it easy to guide carers and disabled people through.
If elected to Parliament I will personally campaign for a system that offers more practical help. After all every carer saves the Government £10,000 a year.
