A week of dismal economic news has left us all feeling under greater pressure than ever. Families are suffering! Having been assailed by the credit crunch, they are now feeling the effects of rising fuel prices along side utility bills.
Once again we had make-shift announcements by a government in panic mode. All we hear is ill thought out panic moves, no long term solutions. Apparently the government is going to help pensioners with their fuel bills. One of the ways they are going to do this is by educating them how to use less fuel.
I can just see all our elderly population waiting excitedly to be educated! Bet they can't wait.
There is also to be an extra voucher to help pensioners on benefits to pay. Yesterday my Auntie Mary, who is in her 70's and my Mum who is 69 and a full time carer to my Dad who has had a serious stroke said to me - what about us? They both live on strict budgets, and are certainly not well off, but they aren't on benefits, they are genuinely struggling to cope but don't receive benefits.
Gordon Brown can do little - Why? ...... Because he has no money left.
Why?........ Because he constantly borrowed during periods of economic growth, and now we are are approaching a possible recession he has now money left to help those in need, just debt he has been rolling up for years.
I think when history looks back at his time as Chancellor they will see that the only time he behaved responsibly was when he stuck to the Conservatives spending plans at the start of the Labour Party's first term in 1997. Since then he has behaved irresponsibly. History will show this to be true!
It's hardly surprising is it then that the Labour Party has debts of around £24 million, how will they deal with this? No wonder they can't call a General Election, they can't pay for one.
