Last night I spent the evening down at Winter Watch. This is basically the soup kitchen in Bolton, where a group of volunteers from churches all over
The food is all donated, and you really can get a good quality 3 course meal there for free, when you really need it.
There is a real mix of people there, from substance users living rough, to those just trying to get back on their feet.
It's not juts about giving them a meal, Dave Baguley who runs things down there, does a really great job, and makes sure they get the advice they need, ie housing, jobs, benefits.
I met 2 girls last night Ellie and Kim who now have flats and most importantly ambitions. They've both been substance users, both been in prison and both sorted themselves out.
They now have homes, and are trying their best to get in training and want to work.
This shows what can be done in the voluntary section, this is where real people with a passion to help others makes a difference. This is what we need, people taking care of people.
