Social Housing Crisis

Prospective Conservative MP for Bolton North East, Deborah Dunleavy has obtained shocking figures about the number of people waiting for ‘social housing’ in the Borough.

Here in Bolton, there are 20,825 families waiting for a home, up from 4,460 in 1997.   At the same time, there are 2,831 homes lying empty.

Ms Dunleavy said, “These figures are simply unacceptable, Bolton ranks as the 2nd highest in greater Manchester and, in fact, 2nd highest in the North West (just 130 behind Manchester) and action needs to be taken urgently to reduce this waiting list, and bringing theses empty properties back into use will help.”

“I am delighted that Grant Shapps, the Shadow Housing Minister, has launched a plan to tackle this social housing crisis,” added Ms Dunleavy.  You can read the plan here
