Astley Bridge Conservative Councillors
Cllr Mrs Hilary Fairclough I have been representing the AstleyBridge ward for seven years. I am presently Conservative spokesman for Culture and community cohesion, Chairman of the AstleyBridge & Smithills Area Forum and Chairman of Sharples secondary school governing body. I hold a residents surgery on the last Friday of every month at the following venues: 5-15pm till 6-15pm at the Uncan centre Mackenzie Street; 6-30pm till 7-30pm at Drummond Street Community centre. No appointment is necessary or you can contact me by e-mail. I am particularly interested in residents and community groups in the AstleyBridge area and would love to come along to your meetings when I can. I am privileged to be able to represent the people of AstleyBridge and hope that the residents will contact me if they feel I can help them in any way. Cllr Stuart Lever In 1987, at the age of 18, with a grant from the Princes Trust of £1000 and a £40 a week allowance from the Enterprise allowance scheme I started my first light haulage business, with one van costing £500 pounds. I got my lucky break when I started to work for Red Bridge, Bolton as their contract driver (which I did for 18 years). The profits I made at Red Bridge enabled me to purchase some rental property and also a rundown shop on Derby Street in 1994. Along with my future wife we turned this into a sandwich shop which we ran for 11 years. In 1999 we set up a van hire Business which we now run from Blackburn Road. I was elected to Bolton Council in 1999 at the age of 30 for Astley Bridge ward which is where I live with my wife and daughter and is the ward that I still serve to this day Cllr John Walsh OBE I was first elected to Bolton Council to represent Halliwell in 1975 and have served for most of the intervening years as a councillor for AstleyBridge. I have over 25 years experience in representing the views of the public of Bolton and hope that I always speak out for those who have elected me. As a councillor however I believe that my most important role is to help the residents of the borough and especially AstleyBridge who have elected me as one of their councillors to represent them. That is why I hold regular surgeries on the last Friday of each month, 5.15pm 6.15pm at the UCAN Centre, on Oldhams Estate and 6.30pm 7.30pm at Drummond Street Community Centre. In between times I am contactable by telephone, post or email and undertake always to do what I can to help residents.

I became Leader of the Conservative Group in May 2007 with the express desire to hold Labours ruling executive to account. Challenging them, trying to influence their policies and seeking the best possible deal for Bolton and its residents. Above all I want to ensure that we establish a firm foundation for the Conservative Group as we fight to become the largest party on the Council in May 2008. We continue to do this by highlighting the major policy differences between Labour and Liberal Democrats councillors and Conservatives.
